5th Sylhet Film Festival starts on September 29

The 5th season of Sylhet Film Festival will start on September 29.

The three-day festival will take place on the Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) campus and is being organized by the Sylhet Agricultural University Film Society (SAUFS).

This year’s festival has both onsite and online activities.

106 films selected from 3065 films from 111 countries are going to be screened in the 5th edition of the Sylhet Film Festival.

Last January 26, 43 films were selected in the short (international) category, 28 in the short (Bangladesh) category, 15 in the documentary category, 10 in the children’s film category, and 10 in the animation category.

Professor Dr. Md. Jamal Uddin Bhuiyan, Vice-Chancellor of Sylhet Agricultural University will inaugurate the festival.

Premendra Majumdar, the renowned film festival consultant and film critic of the subcontinent, has joined as the chief adviser to the Sylhet Film Festival.

Besides, Ashraf Shishir, Arnab Middya, Sadia Khalid Reeti, Wahid Ibn Reza, Manoj Kumar Pramanik, Siddharth Maiti, and Muktadir Ibn Salam have joined the jury board.

On the opening day of the festival, a special screening of the film Kura Pakhir Shunne Ura directed by Muhammad Qayyum has been arranged.

Besides, a workshop on research-based documentary making, an open discussion on film, and an online discussion on the role of film in preserving the culture of Sylhet will be organized.

The organizers of the festival said that awards will be given in 9 categories at the end of the festival.

Sabyasachi Niloy, President of Sylhet Agricultural University Film Association said, after a long absence, the Sylhet Film Festival is back.
