Staff Reporter :
Just a day after of BNP’s announcement of 15-day continuous programme, the ruling Awami League (AL) has announced a series of continuous programmes for 12 days across the country including Dhaka claiming that their programmes were not for countering the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) programmes.

AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif announced the programmes between September 23 and October 4 at a press conference at the Prime Minister’s political office at Dhanmondi in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Party leaders and workers have been asked to participate in this programme in protest of the BNP-Jamaat anarchy, Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif told reporters.

Before announcement of the 12-day programmes, a meeting was held between the president-general secretaries of Dhaka Metropolitan North-South Awami League and its affiliated organisations with the executive members of the party.

However, the AL leader made the announcement after holding a closed-door meeting between the president-general secretaries of Dhaka Metropolitan North-South Awami League and its affiliated organisations with the executive members of the party and other top AL leaders on Tuesday, a day after the BNP announced 15-day street programme to oust the government and holding a free and fair election under a neutral government.

According to the AL announced programmes, AL Dhaka North City and Dhaka South City units will hold a rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in the capital on September 23 at 2:30pm, Mahbubul Alam Hanif said.

The AL Dhaka North City unit will hold a rally in the capital’s Uttara and the South City Unit will hold a rally at Jatrabari at 2:30pm on September 25.

On September 25, AL Gazipur City unit will hold rally at Tongi and Dhaka North City unit will hold rally at Kafrul at 2:30pm.

The AL will hold prayer session at its central party’s office on Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital on September 28 after Asr prayer marking Eid-e-Miladunnabi, said the AL joint secretary Hanif.

On September 29, the Bangladesh Awami League will hold a discussion programme at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 3:00pm marking the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 77th birthday on September 28.

‘AL will celebrate the Prime Minister’s birthday on September 29 as her birthday coincides with the Eid-e-Miladunnabi. The birthday will be celebrated arranging diverse programmes across the country on the day,’ said Hanif.

Bangladesh Krishak League will hold a farmers rally at the south gate of Baitul Mukarram mosque at 2:30pm on September 30.

Bangladesh AL will hold rally for Chattogram district at Mirsarai on October 4.

Asked about whether their series programmes announced are to counter BNP, Hanif said, ‘We have not announced programmes countering the BNP. It is our routine work before the upcoming general election.’

He, however, wanted to know whether events of Eid-e-Miladunnabi and the Prime Minister’s birthday would also be considered as counter programmes.
