Bajitpur villagers’ clash leaves 25 injured

At least 100 shops were vandalized and 25 people injured in a clash between two groups over money transactions at Sararchar Bazar in Bajitpur upazila of Kishoreganj district on Sunday night.

The clash started from Saturday evening and continued to Sunday night until 11 pm.

Hundreds of shops were vandalized by the two groups.

According to locals, three strangers came to Zahid Bkash Shop in Sararchar Bazar on Saturday around 6pm.

They asked the Bkash agent to Bkash Tk.28500 on an urgent basis.

Later, Zahid sent money from his agent number.

One of them, left the Bkash shop saying he is coming soon with the Bkash money.

On Sunday evening people from both sides took turns vandalizing shops with local weapons.

The clash continued till around 11 pm. Several people from both sides were injured in the incident.

On Monday morning, the traders of the market gathered and protested against the shop vandalism and looting.

Zahidur Rahman Mithu, merchant agent of Bikas, said, ‘I sent 30,000 taka to Bikas yesterday afternoon.

Later a gang cheated me without paying the money.

One of the most prominent members of this gang called me and beat me without giving me the money.

When my villagers protested, their shops were vandalized.

When contacted to Additional SP ( Crime & Ops) Md. Al -Amin , said that the clash took place over money transactions in Bikas.

Additional police have been deployed in the area and brought the situation under control.
