Bangladesh Junior Hockey team made an auspicious start in Hockey Junior Asia Cup beating Oman Junior Hockey team by two goals to nil in their Pool-B opening match at Salalah Sports Complex in Salalah of Oman on Tuesday night.
The first quarter of the match ended in a goalless draw. All the two goals were scored in the second quarter of the game.
Tasin Ali of Bangladesh put his team ahead in the 22nd minute of of the play.
Zahid Hossain of Bangladesh made it 2-0 in the 24th minute of the clash.
Both the hockey players of Bangladesh and Oman failed to score in the 3rd and 4th quarter of the game. Thus, Bangladesh Junior Hockey team left the field with a 2-0 goal victory.
Rocky of Bangladesh was adjudged the Player of the Match.
A total of ten teams splitting into two groups are taking part in the ongoing hockey competition. Bangladesh, Oman, South Korea, Malaysia and Uzbekistan are in Pool-B, while India, Pakistan, Japan, Thailand and Chinese Taipei are in Pool-A.
Top two teams from each group will get the tickets of the semi-finals. The winners of the two semi-finals will play in the final. The champions, the runners-up and the third-place achiever team will qualify for the Junior Hockey World Cup.
Bangladesh will take on Malaysia today, face Uzbekistan tomorrow and meet South Korea on May 28.
