Called for preserving memory of Poet Kamini Roy in Jhalokathi

Poets and literary groups of Barishal and Jhalokathi on Saturday have called for preservation of residence and memorials related with Poet Kamini Roy.

More than fifty literary activists after visiting the poet’s ancestral house in Basanda village of Jhalokathi Sadar Upazila on Friday found nothing related with the poet there.

Apurba Gautam Organiser of Progressive Writers Association, during the visit In the poet’s ancestral home, found that the memory of the poet is destroyed.

He said that even though there was once a lot of land including a one-storey house of the poet, Ghatla, old buildings and residual architecture have been demolished and new house has been built here.

The visitors called for the national initiative to highlight the memory of the poet in his ancestral home.

Among others, poet Najmul Hossain Akash, poet Asma Chowdhury, poet Debashish Halder, artist Bimal Chakraborty, poet Joynal Abedin, poet Shobhan Karmakar Krishna, writer Piyush Banerjee, Saidul Haque Suman, poet Al Amin Baklai, Moazzem Hossain Manik, Bahauddin Golap, Sajal Mahmud Minti Rani Das, Abid Hasan, Anita Pandey, Utpal Chakraborty, Abdur Rahman, Tarun Chakraborty, addressed the programme.

The speakers demanded the construction of a museum along with the construction of a memorial pillar at his birthplace to highlight the memory of the poet.
