Early radish cultivation has brought smile on the faces of farmers in Rajshahi region. They are happy over excellent yield of radish this season with fair market price of the produce.
Now per maund of Radish is being sold at Tk 700 to 800 in different markets of the district.
As a result, the growers here are becoming more enthusiastic in radish cultivation due to its less cultivation cost compared to other crops. The vegetable has immense demand among customers, and its cultivation has proved benefitting for the growers.
While talking to the Bangladesh Post, Akbor Ali, a radish grower of Chanpur village under Mohanpur upazila, said he cultivated radish for a long and got additional profit in the previous years. This year he also cultivated radish on one bigha of land and got double price than the previous years.
Shafiqul Islam, another farmer of Berabari village under the same upazila, said that all of farmers are happy for having fair price with bumper radish production this year. They would cultivate radish in the next year for getting satisfactory market price, he also hoped.
Abdul Jalil, a farmer of Kabaripara of Bagmara upazila under the district, said he cultivated radish on one bigha of land and got bumper production. Meanwhile, he has already sold 150 kgs of radish. He has got double of his cultivation cost and become self-reliant rapidly. He would cultivate radish in the next year as well, he hoped.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), the target of radish cultivation was set at 15,000 hectares of land, but around 8,000 hectares of land in the district have been brought under its cultivation. The cultivation of radish are increasing day by day across the region, sources added.
