The government wants to kill Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is now undergoing treatment in a city hospital.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this while addressing a rally in front of BNP’s central office in the city’s Naya Paltan on Monday.
The rally was organized by Krishak Dal, an associate body of BNP, to demand the resignation of the current government and the establishment of a non-partisan neutral government including release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He said that this unelected and illegal government wants to kill Khaleda Zia, the uncompromising leader of democracy.
“The people of the country are unhappy as because this illegal government has kept the national leader and mother of democracy Begum Khaleda Zia under house arrest.
The government is continuously misinterpreting her release.
They are cowards as they know if Khaleda Zia is recovered from illness their power base will collapse,” he said.
BNP Secretary General said, “Beum Khaleda Zia is the country’s first woman freedom fighter.
They (Awami League leaders) did not participate in the war of liberation rather they received allowances from the government of Pakistan.
According to the BNP senior leader, the government cooperated to loot Tk 25,000 crore, while a farmer taken tied around the waist who is unable to repay a loan of Tk 25,000.
These are the government of robbers as they made a ‘begumpara’ in Canada with smuggled money.
“Now it has become difficult for the farmers to survive.
We have said that farmers should be given subsidy.
But they are shared everywhere and workers are not getting their fair wages.
They don’t give jobs to anyone but to get a job has to pay Tk 20 lakh each.
Addressing to the policemen, who are on duty at the rally, Mirza Fakhrul said, “I think that no one has got a job below Tk 20 lakh.”
The government is giving various excuses regarding the treatment of Khaleda Zia, he said indicating when she (Prime Minister) took ear treatment, was there any excuse? They (govt) do not want Begum Khaleda Zia to recover.
Criticizing the Education Minister, the BNP Secretary General said, “I heard that her people have taken away Tk 6000 crore worth of sand in the area of the Education Minister.
What a surprise!”
Recalling the story of a farmer in Rangpur region, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “Where are you all? Woke up! Let’s bring down this government by waking up and restore the democracy. Our great leader Begum Khaleda Zia should be released and our acting chairman Tarique Rahman should be brought back to the country.
