A seven-year-old minor girl named Tanha Akhter Maria was allegedly strangled to death after rape and brutal torture at Didar Colony under Chandgaon Police Station of Chattogram City on Sunday.
Police and local sources said the victim Tanha Akhtar is the daughter of one Baker Hossain.
A first grade student of a local primary school Tanha used to livewith her parents in a rented house in Moulvipukurpar area of the colony.
Police arrested one youth named Rakibul Islam Munna (24)for his involvement in the murder.
Tanha’s father Baker Hossain said, I left the house around 8:30am leaving my daughter at home.
My wife also went for work at 7:30 am.Around nine in the morning, a female neighbor came to me.
The neighbor told me that she saw the body of Tanha in the house.
Being informed, the victim’s father rushed to the spot and found the girl’s body lying on the bed.
Her neck, hands and feet were tied.The body had no clothes except the vest. Her gold ornaments in the ears and neck were taken away.
Local people said that Rakibul Islam Munna killed Tanha after raping her.
Munna tried to escape following the murder, but local people chased and held him before handing over the police.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandgaon Police StationKhairul Islam confirmed the matter to the media and said that the dead body was recovered from the spot.
It was sent to ChattogramMedical College for autopsy.
Filing a case in this regard is under process, the OC added.
